Exners function- A a unit of curvature equal to one per meter (inverse meters or 1/meter); a circle with radius 1/2 meter has a curvature of 2 diopters.

Exchange coefficients- The ratio of the turbulent flux of a conservative property through a surface to the gradient of the mean of the property normal to the surface.

External gravity wave- A wave that can propagate in two opposite directions with vertical speed given. This wave is found only at the top of the fluid and requires a gravitational acceleration for it to occur.
