Talbot- A
unit of luminous (light) energy; one talbot is the energy carried by a light
flux of one lumen in one second (previously called the lumberg, the unit is now
named for the British physicist W.H. Fox Talbot (1800-1877).
Telsa- The SI
derived unit of magnetic flux density (or magnetic inductivity) equivalent tp
one Weber per square meter. 1 T = 1 Wb/m 2 = 10,000 Gauss (named in honor of the
Serbian-American inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla who made several
important contributions to the field of electromagnetism).
Ton- A unit
for weight measurement; one ton is equal to: 40 cubic feet, 1.48148 cubic yards,
1,132.67 litres, 1.13267 cubic metres (a net ton is equal to 2,000 pounds; a
long or British ton is 2,240 pounds; a metric ton is approximately 2,205 pounds;
also a unit of measurement for cooling capacity, 1 ton = 12,000 BTU's per
hour).
Torr- A unit of pressure equal to the pressure exerted by a column of mercury 1 millimeter tall (1 torr = 1 mmHg, standard atmospheric pressure is 760 torr) . The unit is named for Italian physicist and mathematician Evangelista Torricelli who discovered the principal of the barometer.
