Quantitative precipitation estimation- The estimation of the amount of rainfall or rainfall rates based on radar measurements or satellite data.

Quasigeostrophic- A system or flow that evolves slowly in time compared to the rotation period of the earth, has a length scale of the deformation radius or larger, and undergoes only limited vertical excursions.

Quasi hydrostatic approximation- The use of the hydrostatic equation as the vertical equation of motion, thus implying that the vertical accelerations are small without constraining them to be zero.

Quasi Lagrangian coordinates- A system of mixed Eulerian and Lagrangian coordinates.

Q vector- A horizontal vector, arising in quasigeostrophic and semigeostrophic theory, the divergence of which appears on the right-hand side of the omega equation.
